Power walking with a beautiful golden retriever on a quiet beach in East Lothian provided a calm stress free environment for her to exercise. She wasn’t triggered into reactive behaviour as there were no other dogs in the vicinity.
This Greyhound rescue is both senior and reactive to other dogs. This slow amble amongst the trees allowed him to scan his environment while being safe and staying calm. No other dogs came into his space to upset him.
This beautiful Golden Retriever is new to my solo dog walker days. She’s engaging with me a few times and her body language is calm and relaxed and she’s enjoying her deserted beach walks. Her reactivity and resource guarding isn’t an issue at all. She sits down sometimes during dog walks and lunges when other dogs approach but not today. Calm, relaxed and happy.
Keeping this young reactive Cocker Spaniel focusing on handing me his ball to my hand instead of dropping in on the ground. Strong play and focus like this takes his mind off what other dogs in the vicinity might be doing. This large open space allows me to watch him off lead constantly.
Standing alongside a natural hedge, as the on-leash Labrador passed at distance. I deflected the reactivity by ‘tshhh” sounds and moving him a few steps backwards. This calmed the situation and his decompression urination afterwards was short lived and we moved on quietly afterwards.
