My Experience With dogs

From Military Dog Handler to Your Dog’s Best Friend

Hi I'm Jill, thanks for dropping by. Dogs don’t you just love them? I devoted a large part of my life to the care and welfare of dogs…

But First, why choose me? As an Ex-Military Dog Handler, I specialise in calm, structured one-to-one walks for reactive, nervous, senior and recovering dogs. Every walk is tailored to your dog’s individual needs, with safety, trust, and emotional wellbeing at the heart of everything I do. No pack distractions, no unnecessary stress, and no cutting corners. Just one woman, one dog, and a calm controlled environment.

As a kid, we rescued two dogs from Edinburgh Dog and Cat Home who lived with my family well into their seventeenth years. They were Labrador/Border Collie crosses. I often wonder how different our lives would have been if we'd gotten up earlier and been first in the queue the day the 'Dulux Dog,' was up for adoption...He'd been causing quite a stir amongst the visitors who were vying to take him home! But the bouncy and delightful Old English Sheepdog went to another family that day. Probably to people better equipped to handle such a strong and determined breed. We were a family of shift workers and young children living in a flat!

Mr Dulux did however whet my appetite for larger breeds and fast forward into my adulthood and a beautiful Black Labrador or two later I decided to train with the Military Guard Service to become a Qualified Dog Handler at Warminster Training Centre in Wiltshire. There we had a Rhodesian Ridgeback/Rottweiler called Ben (a powerhouse but an all round good bloke actually) a Belgian Shepherd who was swift on his legs and a few very large and strong German Shepherds.

It was here with the military that I learned to handle large breeds and we always taught walking to heel, being calm and obedient even in stressful situations and vehicle familiarisation. Off Leash training was fun to do too. I also provided meaningful exercise on the camp in amongst the trees and nature where the dogs were allowed to sniff and just be dogs. Tired but happy when they returned to their kennels. That was always my aim. I managed it then and I endeavour to do the same with every dog I walk today.

I believe all my skills are valuable and transferrable and they help calm and nurture dog/s who would benefit from a one-to-one dog walking experience with me. I believe that no matter what size the dog is, they all need structure and a good leader to live happy and fulfilled lives. I walk all sizes, shapes and ages of dogs. I tailor my walks to the needs and health of the individual dog.

My dog walking service is fully insured, and I have just completed a Police check with Disclosure Scotland. I have completed The Edinburgh Dog and Cat Home's Dog First Aid Course and Dog Body Language accredited course so you can trust that the health and safety of your favourite friend is very important to me. I am  also very reliable and I will always show up on time for your scheduled walks.
